SUPPORTING COPY: Come see what artists are creating in their studios nestled in the gorgeous Tahoe landscape. The fifteenth annual North Tahoe ARTour, a free open-studio tour, offers the public an opportunity to discover the wonderful art made in this region. ARTour will be held for the first time this year on two consecutive weekends, Friday thru Sunday, July 11-13 and July 18-20, 10-am to 5pm daily. Join in this cultural tradition, sponsored by North Tahoe Arts, to meet artists, discuss their work, and view or buy original art. Artists will also offer technique demonstrations at their studios.
“We continually strive to fulfill the mission statement written nineteen years ago by the North Tahoe Arts founding artists,” says Anne Haley, Executive Director of North Tahoe Arts. Haley continues, “We remain committed to supporting the arts in our community through exposure, education and participation. ARTour 2008 is a chance for the community to visit local artists in their studios and speak with them directly. This unique opportunity — this year for the first time on two consecutive weekends - allows art enthusiasts to enjoy six days of the best local art in Tahoe.”
The tour is divided into six geographic areas: Tahoe City/West Shore studios, North Shore/ Kings Beach studios, Incline Village studios, Tahoe Donner/Donner Lake studios, Truckee/Northstar studios, and Glenshire studios. Free maps with studio locations and a description of the type of art featured are available at many locations throughout the region including the Incline Village Visitors Center, the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach, the Truckee Visitor’s Center located in the train station building, and most art galleries. Or, just follow the yellow ARTour signs dotting the landscape.
The broad array of media presented this year include oils, acrylics, watercolors, glass, wood, metal furnishings, wearable art, sculpture, gourds, photography, ceramics, and fiber. Some of the artists are regionally or nationally known and collected while others are emerging artists. ARTourists can visit with the artists in their studios, see how they work, and see how they are inspired by their environment. The art on display at the studios will be for sale at artist-direct prices.
Preview work by the ARTour artists at the opening reception Wednesday, July 9 from 5 pm to 8 pm, at North Tahoe Arts, 380 North Lake Blvd, Tahoe City, California. The reception will feature appetizers, music, and an exhibit of ARTour artists’ work. For more information, call North Tahoe Arts at 530 581 2787 or visit http://www.northtahoearts.com.
